Shangri La  Journeys Earthquake Reliefs Program

The two major Earthquakes in Nepal in the month 25th April and 12th May 2015 killed nearly 9,000 people and injured nearly 22,000. Hundreds of thousands of Nepalese were made homeless with entire villages flattened, across many districts of the country. Centuries-old buildings were destroyed at UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley, including some at the Kathmandu Durbar Square, the Patan Durbar Square, the Bhaktapur Durbar Square, the Changu Narayan Temple, the Boudhanath stupa and the Swayambhunath Stupa.

After the earthquake, the situation was very bad in the country. Our porter’s houses were destroyed and they were homeless and there was no food to eat. So we “Shangri La Journeys” started collecting the fund for Our Porters Earthquake Reliefs program with our friends from Germany and USA. Then we distributed the collected money to our porter’s family from Langtang and Okhaldhunga.

Also in our Earthquake Reliefs Program our friend’s Buddhist teacher Lama Sonam from Kamalashila Institut für buddhistische Studien und Meditation, Germany. We worked with his organization Himalayan Karuna Deutschland e.v, which have been helping the people of Nepal since its establishment. We distributed the foods i.e Rice, Daal, Noodles, Biscuits and daily necessary foods to almost 200 families from 3 different places i.e  Okhaldhunga,  Shankhu and Phutung.
